Some preterists hold to the view that the Two Witnesses refer to the Old and New Testaments. However, in Revelation 1:19 Jesus tells John to "Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter." John did indeed write the things that he saw. In Revelation ch. 11 he states that these Two Witnesses are living beings because they can be hurt and that they will die. In ch. 10 he describes a little book or scroll that the angel told him to eat. In ch. 5 of Revelation he again sees a written scroll with seven seals on it. If the Two Witnesses were the Old and the New Testaments why didn't he describe them as two books or scrolls? I agree with you that what John saw was two human beings prophesying in the End-Times.

Yeah, I tend to agree with you. Some say the two witnesses are the Old & New Testaments and had something to do with French history. While this theory may have symbolic parallels I think that's close as they come to the real thing. The real thing being that these two are actual human beings, prophets. And what you're saying is absolutely true. The French theory or whatever you wanna call it discounts the fact these two will be seen dead on the street by the whole world. But this theory cannot account for that slight inconvenient truth - well, prophecy.
